Rader to Host Shredding/Fall Clean-Up Day at Pocono Raceway
10/8/2020
POCONO PINES – In an effort to help the public with the disposal of unwanted paperwork and household items, Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) is hosting a Shredding/Fall Clean-Up Day at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event is for Monroe County residents only.

“I had intended to host our clean-up day in the spring, but COVID-19 changed those plans and we had to postpone,” said Rader. “My staff and I worked with Pocono Raceway and our other partners, Purple Paper Eaters and The Waste Authority, in coming up with a way to safely hold the event. I hope folks take advantage of this opportunity to get rid of things around the house they no longer need.”

The event will take place in the parking area in front of the raceway ticket office at 1234 Long Pond Road. Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles while Rader’s staff unloads any paperwork or household items for disposal. Staff members will be adhering to all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) health and safety guidelines.

Paper shredding will be provided by Purple Paper Eaters Document Destruction Services of Wilkes-Barre. There is a limit of four copy-paper-sized boxes per vehicle.

Additional items to be accepted include:

    • Up to four passenger car tires collected at no cost by The Waste Authority of Blakeslee. Clean tires only please.
    • Prescription drugs collected by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
    • Faded and worn flags collected by American Legion Post 413 Pocono Lake.
    • Prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses and hearing aids collected by Lions Club.
    • Working cell phones and chargers collected for Cell Phones for Soldiers.
    • Gently used children’s books collected by Clymer Library.

Rader added that there will be a special appearance by “Tricky,” the Pocono Raceway mascot.
