2017-18 Budget Funds Priorities Without Broad-Based Tax Increases, Says Rader

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) issued the following statement after the House passed a $32 billion spending plan on Friday. The 2017-18 budget bill represents a 0.2 percent increase over last year’s budget.

“I supported this budget bill because it invests an additional $100 million in education without broad-based tax increases. Notably, early childhood education funds receive an increase, as well as transportation dollars for rural schools. We worked hard to hold the line on spending, especially as our state experienced lower-than-predicted revenues over the past year. I advocated for an increase in tourism marketing dollars because investments in tourism generate significant revenue for our community and our Commonwealth. This is not a perfect budget, but it represents our commitment to reinventing state government and examining critically every dollar spent by state government.”
