EFFORT – In an effort to assist Monroe County families, Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) is hosting an event for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. The free event will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eldred Community Center, 516 Kunkletown Road in Kunkletown.
“The number of grandparents in Pennsylvania who have become primary caregivers to their grandchildren has grown significantly in recent years as a result of the opioid epidemic,” said Rader. “Our event will bring together a number of agencies that can provide help and guidance to these families in our area.”
Pennsylvania Department of Aging Secretary Robert Torres and Monroe County Area Agency on Aging Director Brian LaVacca will speak at 10 a.m. followed by a question-and-answer session.
Representatives from these agencies will be on hand with information about local and state resources available to grandparents raising grandchildren:
• Carbon Monroe Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission
• Carbon Monroe Pike Mental Health and Development Services
• Family Services of Northeastern Pennsylvania
• Kin Connector
• Milton Hershey School
• Monroe County Area Agency on Aging
• Monroe County Assistance Office
• North Penn Legal Services
• Pennsylvania Department of Aging
Please call 570-620-4341 to make a reservation or to ask a question about the event.
