Rader Issues Statement on Wolf Mask Mandate

August 31, 2021

EFFORT – Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s statewide mask mandate for Pennsylvania school students:

“Today’s announcement is yet another questionable order made by a governor and his administration who think they know what will work best for local school administrators, families and students.

“However, I believe the decision to mask or not to mask should be made on the local level by school boards working in conjunction with parents. After all, they are the ones who can truly determine how to keep students and faculty safe, while maintaining an effective learning environment at the same time.

“A majority of Pennsylvania voters decided back in May to bring an end to a governor’s unilateral disaster emergency declarations through a constitutional amendment that requires the Legislature to be included in the decision-making process for any future orders. They want their elected representatives to have some input is such critical decisions, which unfortunately did not occur today.”
