BLAKESLEE – In his continuing effort to help residents with the disposal of personal documents and certain other items, Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) is once again hosting a shredding/cleanup event at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. The free service is available to Monroe County residents only.

“My staff and I are pleased we can once again provide these services to residents, along with our partners,” said Rader. “This event has proven to be popular as folks take advantage of the opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive paperwork or things they no longer need.”

The event will also include the opportunity for residents to replace hard-to-read license plates. PennDOT is required by law to replace a plate free of charge if they are deemed illegible by law enforcement or a certified inspection mechanic. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to inspect license plates and sign the appropriate form. Pre-registration is required by calling Rader’s district office in Blakeslee at 570-643-7683 to provide title and plate information, or by visiting www.RepRader.com/events.

The event will take place in the parking area in front of the raceway ticket office at 1234 Long Pond Road. Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles while Rader’s staff unloads any paperwork or other items for disposal.

Shredding will be conducted on site by Purple Paper Eaters Document Destruction Services of Wilkes-Barre. There is a limit of four copy-paper-sized boxes per vehicle.

Additional items to be accepted include:

   • Up to four old tires per vehicle (no rims), collected free of charge by The Waste Authority.
   • Unwanted or expired prescription drugs collected by the Monroe County Sheriff’s   Office.
   • Faded and worn flags collected by American Legion Post 413 Pocono Lake.
   • Prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses and hearing aids collected by the Lions Club.
   • Gently used children’s books collected by Clymer Library.
